But those are the...

Welcome to my Ran the Goldfish shrine! She's a character I've really loved since I was a preteen, and I thought it made sense to show my appreciation for her somewhere!

What is Tenshi no Shippo?

Chibi Ran Tenshi no Shippo started as 'Otogi Story P.E.T.S' in Megami magazine's August 2000 issue, created by Hiroaki Maki. The protagonist, depicted as an unlucky man with a love for animals, is reunited with 12 animals he lost throughout his life. They're all guardian angels now (and all girls, surprise surprise), who have sworn to protect him for the rest of their lives. Despite being a harem series, it focused more on a "family" aspect, likely due to the wide age range of the angels.
In 2001, it received its first anime: "Otogi Story Tenshi no Shippo", or simply "Angel Tales" in the US. Bandai and Wonderfarm produced the series with Tokyo Kids. Bandai was also responsible for the english dub. In 2003, it received a second anime, titled "Otogi Story tenshi no Shippo Chu!" which took place a year after the first anime. In 2003 a playstation game was also released, "Otogi Story Tenshi no Shippo", published by Bandai. Despite lacking 'Chu!' in its name, the game featured the designs from 'Chu!', as well as characters that only appeared in the OVAs. The main protagonist was named Goro Mutsumi for all media outside of the magazine stories.

Despite its lack of popularity in the US, Tenshi no Shippo had multiple drama CDs, merch, books, and a manga released in Japan. Hilariously, it's Yaoi based spin off "Saint Beast" seemed to have more popularity in the West online.

Who is Ran?

Ran Card Ran is one of the first three angels to appear in the series. Depicted as gentle and polite, Ran is considered the main heroine of the series, often narrating or used for promotional videos. Because she's soft spoken, she's often outshone or overwhelmed by the others, though she can be quite fiery when pushed too far. She's portrayed as very loyal to Goro, having romantic feelings for him, though these are never quite portrayed as reciprocated.

In her past life, Ran was Goro's pet goldfish, whom he had rescued from a goldfish catching booth after noticing that she was looking limp in the tank. However, after living with Goro for a while, Ran passed away when the pump on her tank stopped working, suffocating her. As an angel, Ran is quite fearful of bodies of water because of this.

In season one, Ran's human form is that of a 15 year old girl. At the start of season two, she is 16. She is shown as 18 years old at the end of the last episode.

Ran's Guardian Angel rank is 'Senior'. Her favorite color is pink.

She is voiced by Rie Tanaka in the Japanese dub, and Michelle Ruff in the English dub.
